Choral Work

From S. Drummond Wolff at College of Marin's Collegiate Chorale (who lived for a time with the great atonal composer Arnold Schoenberg in Austria) to Steven Angelucci of St. Eugenes Cathedral and Carol Menke at Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa, CA, Chris thanks God for the opportunities he's been given to lift up his voice in song with others.

Here's Mozart's "Requiem", performed by the St. Cecelia Choir in 2006, as well as "How Great Thou Art". "God Be in My Head", "Ave Maria", and "Tantum Ergo", sung by the Saint Eugenes Cathredral Choir on our European tour in 1999.

"Tantum Ergo" is our newest post, dedicated to the rebuilding of Notre Dame Cathedral. We hope they put a bathroom in for the singers.

Chris sang bass in all of these selections and thought he took the liner pic, but read the liner notes the other day for the first time in years and sees it's attributed to Peter Martin (although Chris took several inside the liner).

Nice shot, Peter!

Also, here's the first of a few pieces from a concert at Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa, CA, on March 21, 2008: "Precious Lord," a spiritual arranged by Roy Ringwald.

These were performed by Cantiamo Sonoma and St. Cecelia Choir, soloists Carol Menke (Soprano), Lynda Higson (Mezzo-Soprano), Jos Milton (Tenor) and Tom Hart (Bass-Baritone), on March 28th, 2008, recorded by Richard Ross of Solevey music; Corrick Brown, Guest conductor.

And here's a choral piece from a Good Friday Concert at the Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa in 2007--Mozart's "Missa Solemnis K. 337", that Chris sang bass in, with the same artists as Mozart's Requiem.

Even newer: Hadyn's Requiem in C Minor sung by the usual suspects at The Church of the Incarnation, in Santa Rosa, CA.

Oh yeah, here's a memory I can't forget that testifies to S. Drummond Wolff's ear:

Another tenor at the time, Jim, would often sing next to me way up in the alto section on the third or fourth level of the new COM choir room in our 400+ voice choir (after all, we were part of the "baby boomer" generation).

We liked to have a couple of hits in the parking lot before rehearsal to enjoy even more the waves of communal sound that Mr. Wolff coached out of us.

One rehearsal Jim and I were enjoying ourselves a little bit more than usual while singing along pretty lackadasically, and suddenly Mr. Wolff waved his hands violentley and hushed the entire choir and pointed at me maybe 200 feet away.

He yelled, "Mr. Musser, you were flat in the second phrase starting on the third measure of page 11, don't let it happen again!"

OMG; I made sure it didn't.

Enjoy!
